About

Gurung_CoverCropI’m an island boy, born and raised in Bombay (India, yes an island albeit an extremely well populated one). Probably explains part of my love of New Zealand (perfect sabbatical).

I got a Potter-esque high school education(Cathedral) complete with four houses vying for yearly honors (everything but the spells) then earned a B.S. at Carleton College (MN) in Psychology. Westward ho after that for 5 years in Seattle (University of Washington). Post Ph. D. (Social/Personality), I did a postdoctoral stint at UCLA (Health Psychology), and then cheese called. On Wisconsin.

I have served in a number of roles at UW-Green Bay- Chair of Psychology and Chair of Human Development, took a walk on the Dark Side (Associate Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences), and am also active outside campus-Past-President of the Society for the Teaching of Psychology (STP) and the Bay Area Community Council (BACC),  I recently served as Vice President (Midwest) for Psi Chi- the International Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) and am currently the founding Co-Editor of Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Psychology (SoTLiP).

My passions are teaching, writing, and talking about psychology (I have non-academic passions too). I savor psychology and am fascinated by how psychology can help make life better. I like the challenge of being as good a teacher as I can, and correspondingly, to help students learn to the best of their abilities and beyond.
